August M. Mantia, M.D. is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who is fluent in both English and Italian. In 1969 he graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia and in 1974 from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University of North Carolina. After graduation, Dr. Mantia completed an anesthesia residency at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Mantia is a board certified anesthesiologist with over twenty years of academic and clinical experience. Upon completing his training, Dr. Mantia took a position with the anesthesia team at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he rose to the position of chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Anesthesia. During this period cardiac procedures increased from approximately 250 in 1986 to near 1000 in 1993. At the same time, Dr. Mantia established an American Society of Anesthesiologist's approved fellowship in cardiac anesthesia, which continues presently. He has also held chairmanship positions at both Sewickley Valley Hospital and Ohio Valley General Hospital. He has either worked in or managed pain clinics in all of these three hospitals. During this same time period, he rose to the level of Associate Clinical Professor at both the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and West Virginia University.
Dr. Mantia's practice now focuses exclusively on acute and chronic pain. Dr. Mantia is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management and serves as the Senior Consultant in Pain Management for Ben Franklin Medical Consultants. In addition, he is a certified member of the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.
Most recently, Dr. Mantia has opened a new office in North Hills. His office is located in the Health South Building along Mcknight Road. The practice combines both physician pain management and an extensive physical therapy department.
